Double Vision: a variant on traditional dense stereo techniques

چکیده

This work, conceptually envisaged by Prof. R. B. Fisher, undertook the augmentation of one of the original approaches in the dense stereo eld by Cox et al. [1]. The aim was to introduce explicit vertical constraint into the Cox algorithm and reduce the streaking and speckling noise e ects commonly associated with stereo results from this approach. These e ects are commonly attributed to the lack of vertical constraint in this algorithm caused by scan-line independence in the process of matching a pair of recti ed stereo images (e.g. Pentagon images of Figure 1). Here scan-line inter-dependence was introduced by matching the scan-lines in pairs as opposed to in isolation and thus this vertical pairing introduces explicit vertical matching constraint. This approach achieved some limited improvement and is presented by example in Figure 1 for the common Pentagon stereo test images.

Active Stereo-matching for One-shot Dense Reconstruction

Stereo-vision in computer vision represents an important field for 3D reconstruction. Real time dense reconstruction, however, is only achieved for high textured surfaces in passive stereo-matching. In this work an active stereo-matching approach is proposed. A projected pattern is used to artificially increase the texture of the measuring object, thus enabling dense reconstruction for one-shot...

Parametric Dense Stereovision Implementation on a System-on Chip (SoC)

This paper proposes a novel hardware implementation of a dense recovery of stereovision 3D measurements. Traditionally 3D stereo systems have imposed the maximum number of stereo correspondences, introducing a large restriction on artificial vision algorithms. The proposed system-on-chip (SoC) provides great performance and efficiency, with a scalable architecture available for many different s...

Optimizing Disparity Candidates Space in Dense Stereo Matching

In this paper, a new approach for optimizing disparity candidates space is proposed for the solution of dense stereo matching problem. The main objectives of this approachare the reduction of average number of disparity candidates per pixel with low computational cost and high assurance of retaining the correct answer. These can be realized due to the effective use of multiple radial windows, i...

A Stereo Vision System for an Autonomous Vehicle

Several techniques for use in a stereo vision system are described. These include a stereo camera model solver, a high resolution stereo correlator for producing accurate matches with accuracy and confidence estimates, a search technique for using the correlator to produce a dense sampling of matched points for a pair of pictures, and a ground surface finder for distinguishing the ground from o...

Dense and Reliable Dsm Generation from Vhr Stereo Pairs in Urban Environments

Photogrammetric terrain reconstruction from aerial and space stereopairs of images occupies a prominent place in cartography and remote sensing. Stereo vision systems determine depth from two or more images using automated techniques. The most important and time consuming task for a stereo vision system is the registration of both images, i.e. the matching of corresponding pixels. Area based st...
